This list keeps getting longer (therefore God exists)

A personal favorite:

ARGUMENT FROM ENGINEERING
(1) I'm an engineer.
(2) If I applied the same logic to my engineering work as I do to my rationale for God's existence, then the things I engineer would fall apart.
(3) Somehow, I am still employed as an engineer.
(4) Therefore, God exists.

here is a pretty solid argument i have never found a flaw in it.

The Argument from Efficient Causality

We notice that some things cause other things to be (to begin to be, to continue to be, or both). For example, a man playing the piano is causing the music that we hear. If he stops, so does the music.
Now ask yourself: Are all things caused to exist by other things right now? Suppose they are. That is, suppose there is no Uncaused Being, no God. Then nothing could exist right now. For remember, on the no-God hypothesis, all things need a present cause outside of themselves in order to exist. So right now, all things, including all those things which are causing things to be, need a cause. They can give being only so long as they are given being. Everything that exists, therefore, on this hypothesis, stands in need of being caused to exist.
But caused by what? Beyond everything that is, there can only be nothing. But that is absurd: all of reality dependent—but dependent on nothing! The hypothesis that all being is caused, that there is no Uncaused Being, is absurd. So there must be something uncaused, something on which all things that need an efficient cause of being are dependent. Existence is like a gift given from cause to effect. If there is no one who has the gift, the gift cannot be passed down the chain of receivers, however long or short the chain may be. If everyone has to borrow a certain book, but no one actually has it, then no one will ever get it. If there is no God who has existence by his own eternal nature, then the gift of existence cannot be passed down the chain of creatures and we can never get it. But we do get it; we exist. Therefore there must exist a God: an Uncaused Being who does not have to receive existence like us—and like every other link in the chain of receivers.

Hi OLC,

If I understand you correctly this is an argument for polytheism rather than an argument for the Judeo-Christian God. If everything needs a cause then so does God, and the God that beget God was caused by someone--shoot, now we now need another God to cause him/her...and so on and so on and so on. It's getting God-awful crowded up there.

Yup, gotta go with Stan here. you can't make such a bold statement of EVERYTHING having a cause and then throw into the equation the term UNCAUSED BEING and come up with the the answers you want. Now you can BELIEVE in the possibility of there being an uncaused force of some sort but in fact you don't KNOW that to be true. Then we need to talk of probabilities, and the probabilities of said force being some sort of supernatural being is 1 in 1,(add infinite number of zeros here.)

Hello OLC,

I used to believe this argument was bullet-proof too, but S2R and prog have shown this to be blatantly false. I would just add one thing. Even if the argument were bullet-proof, it would only prove the existence of something that has the power of existence in and of itself (whether you call that a god or the universe or a force or whatever). What's the bullet-proof argument that this entity is the judeo-christian god? Given all the myriad problems with the bible (your source of belief in this entity), it's a non-sequitur that even granting the existence of this entity would somehow make it the christian god by fiat.

FSM Blesses You.

I think we need to throw in Kissing Hank's Ass in the argument at this point before we get too far.
