One of my favorite authors is Paul Auster. Many years ago my wife kept nagging me to read City of Glass. I was flying to Memphis and she stuck it in my hand to read in the plane. Damn! I was so blown away by this short novella they had to drag me off the plane as I was sticking in my seat just finishing the novel. I then read the other two in the New York Trilogy, also good, but City of Glass by far the best. I then couldn't get enough of his novels, In the Country of Last Things, China Palace, Mr. Vertigo and several others. He has a continuing theme of things in one's life being taken until we are brought to a basic self. Several movies have been take from Auster stories like The Music of Chance, Smoke, and Lulu on the Bridge. It's been a while, but I need to read City of Glass again (4th time).
