Being Atheist since 3 hours after conception I've often felt I've missed out on that moment of epiphany when one realizes the absurdities of their life long belief in religion. I mentioned that to one recent deconvert to atheism and he said I shouldn't feel left out. He said his life of performing mental gymnastics of the evidence in everyday life to fit the convoluted explanations of his religion became exhausting. I sp'ose one of the benefits of Atheism is the clarity of thought. I'll have to admit that fact does lend a bit of serenity to my life.

One nice thing about atheism is that I can study religion, history and science objectively. I could never do that as a fundamentalist.

I've been essentially an atheist since the age of about 9, but before that I remember the weird sort of conclusions I drew when I applied religious "knowledge" to the real world.
I just plain didn't have the sort of brain needed to manage Mental Gymnastics; which is probably a good thing.
