Ok, maybe "faith" is more like "guilt"

I have friends who work in fields such as IT, electrical engineering, university professors, etc. Many of who are very religious.

After contemplating this briefly, I found that this was a strange combination.

One of these friends is a network admin. for a notable movie production company. He mentioned one day [a few years back] how it gave him goose bumps when the congregation at his church said the Pledge of Allegiance and emphasized "under god".

Another, the professor, teaches science. However, her teaching includes that the world is older than 6,000 years.

Another, an electrical engineer, tried to get me to go to his church; explained that the world will come to an end in about 30 years; all the while he was having an affair with a married woman [yes, he's married, too]. I considered asking him if he's familiar with Leviticus 20:10. But thought better of fanning the fires.

Does anyone else have friends this enigmatic?

I have a two friends from college. One of these women left the Seventh-day Adventist faith and joined another. Her friend, a Dentist, set up a lunch with her and proceeded to tell her that they could no longer be friends given the lapse in faith. All the while, the holier-than-thou friend was shtupping some guy behind her husband's back (figuratively not literally). :)

I recently Googled an old high school chum. Surprisingly, he showed up as an evangelical healer. Emailed my phone and a few days later he called. He wondered at my beliefs. When I told him he thought it sounded like Satan had my attention. He asked if I had any aches. Well no cartilage in my left knee gave me all the aches for the test. He prayed in Jesus' name and asked me to stand. When I told him it felt no different he had me hold the phone to my knee. He called on the powers. It did feel better as long as I talked with him but went back to normal after he hung up.

I did remind him that a coupla' years out of high school he had told me ditchweed was all over the place. I went with him and sure enough right around the bend in the road there was all kinds of wild daisies. Wow. He said he got hi off it. Others did too. Later I took him 30 miles away where I had mowed for the government and showed him the real McCoy at an old hemp farm from WWII.

He still insists Jesus is the real thing now. And this guy was really smart. I just don't get it. I played along, though. He was a friend and I'm not gonna' lay into him too bad.
