Each family is to have on hand enough food to feed every member of the house for a year.
I've heard this and wonder if it is a myth.

Actually it's two years. Long time storage food industry thrives in Utah. I helped my neighbor build a shed. We lined it with shelves and he put in these plastic tubs and asked me if I thought mice could gnaw thru. I said it's not likely unless maybe you were to fill the tubs with grains and other food stuffs. Then I dawned on me, I helped him build his storrage for his two year supply. I had to laugh.
Oh there's a standing joke:
Q. What do you get when you cross a Mexican and a Mormon?
A. A two year supply of hub caps.
Forgive my ethnic slur.

I've got about a years supply stored around my gut.
Orson Scott Card writes great stuff. Especially Enders Game and its' sequels. My favorite, though, is Lost Boys. Fairly obvious in Lost Boys that he has had some experience with the LDS.
