There's lots of these, but, here's some of my favorite:

If a man rapes a virgin who is betrothed to someone, the woman should be put to death. Reason: she didn't scream loud enough to save herself from being raped.

If a man rapes a virgin who is NOT betrothed to someone, the man must pay the father 50 shekels of silver, and marry her.

If a man has sex with another man (homosexuality), they should both be killed. (Never mind that it didn't actual harm anyone, and they both consented to the act.)

Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death. (Good, a thought crime!)

Kill anyone with a different religion. (Now, I can think of a few people that should be OK with this one... I hope.. :P )

There's so much more... What are YOUR favorites?

I think my all time favorite is the rape and release law. See Deut.21:10-14.

Basically, Moses tells his soldiers, when you're on the battlefield, and you spot a really hot young girl, you can take her home (note: against her will- as you've just killed her parents). Then, you shave her head and wait a few days. Then, you tell her she's your wife and promptly rape her. If it turns out she doesn't turn you on, you can boot her out the door. Actually, the text points out that you can't "boot her out" you have to let her out of the house gently because you have just humiliated her. Oh, you think?

Let's see, you just killed her whole family (according to the text), you kidnapped her, raped her, shaved her head and made her homeless. Humiliated...yep, the Bible is right there.

Deuteronomy 21

10 "When you go out to battle against your enemies, and the LORD your God delivers them into your hands and you take them away captive,
11 and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and have a desire for her and would take her as a wife for yourself,
12 then you shall bring her home to your house, and she shall shave her head and trim her nails.
13 "She shall also remove the clothes of her captivity and shall remain in your house, and mourn her father and mother a full month; and after that you may go in to her and be her husband and she shall be your wife.
14 "It shall be, if you are not pleased with her, then you shall let her go wherever she wishes; but you shall certainly not sell her for money, you shall not mistreat her, because you have humbled her.

This is my favorite:

11 “When men fight with one another and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts, 12 then you shall cut off her hand. Your eye shall have no pity.

Deuteronomy 25:11-12 ESV

The first time i saw that one quoted somewhere, i didn't believe the bible really said that, until i went and looked it up for myself.

Rich!

And just think, there are 613 of these ridiculous laws.

And just think, there are 613 of these ridiculous laws.

Many of them seem silly and outdated for today, because they are. But, at the time, they probably made a great deal of sense. Laws are constantly evolving even in today's society (the Dred Scott decision, Prohibition, and women having the right to vote come to mind) as new situations come about.

Sincerely,
