Truthout's Jason Leopold reports that Army Specialist Jeremy Hall, 22, who is
currently deployed in Iraq, is being repeatedly threatened by other US soldiers
because of his lawsuit against the secretary of defense and an Army major this
week. The lawsuit alleges that Hall's First Amendment rights were violated
beginning last Thanksgiving when he declined to participate in a Christian
prayer ceremony commemorating the holiday.
It's been quite a few years since my Army days but I recall minor incidents conflicting my Atheism. Nothing as severe as this one. It amazed me, though I know it shouldn't, that the so called Americans can't recognize real freedom, the very thing they're claiming to be defending.

It means that the implicated major got someone high up to bail him out. The rest of the NCO's and grunts will take a fall for him though.

This story is very disappointing but not too much of a shocker. After all, look who the Commander in Chief is...

Hall's attorneys say Fort Riley has permitted a culture promoting Christianity and anti-Islamic sentiment, including posters quoting conservative columnist Ann Coulter and sale of a book, "A Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam," at the post exchange.
HMM, I wonder if they sell Dawkins and Harris?

Update: This topic about Jeremy Hall is still being talked about. Today's Salt Lake Tribune ran an article from syndicated colomnist Robin Blumner titled, Military makes mincemeat of church-state separation;

phrog, I'm sure that although you had some minor incidents, with the "leadership" we have now, it would naturally be much worse. As Robyn says in her article, "it seems particularly combustible for our armed forces to be combining "end-times" Christian theology with military might".

It's good to see this siiue still in the news. It would be better if it were resolved in Hall's favor. That may take some time. Here's some interviews with him:

I sent Robyn Blumner a thank you for the column and she actually responded back!
