Thank you for the reminder that I had registered to post here. I have been busy doing Atheist things and did not link this site to my favorites list.

I live in Arizona and am a member of the Secular Humanist of greater Phoenix organization. I try to make their meetings but have gone through some leg surgery making driving difficult. I did however, attend the "Athiest Alliance International" conference in Arlington Virginia last weekend where I heard, Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris, Dennett and other writers speak for the Atheist growth in America.

We are growing, my friends, and I am proud to be part of this movement. If anyone from this forum attended, I would love to discuss it. We had hundreds of participants making it nearly impossible to catch all the speakers even in the 3 days.

I have retired my web site due to the fact I have no reason to vote in 2008 as all the candidates are incapable of reading the Constitution.

I was made aware that Sam Harris spoke. I put his transcripted speech at the thread in Coffee Shop, The Stagnation of Atheism. Did you happen to catch it while there?

Oh yeah. Toodles. Great to have you. Wanna' wrestle?

Wrestle? Sure! I was a fair athlete in my days but turned into an old woman overnight.

The discussion I heard from Harris was how we use the world Atheist. I'd been an Atheist longer than most of the audience as I was older than most. While my children were still under my care, I did not use the word. But they soon went off to college, became professionals and were not surprised when I mentioned that I was indeed an Atheist. They were not surprised at all. We always lived as individuals without any spiritual ghost hanging over us.

I know from personal experience that once the "A" word is out, one can really discover who ones friends are. It did not work well for me when I was on the board of directors for our Chamber Music Society and I quietly left after 3 and a half years of writing their musical notes for the media.

Wrestle in the Platonic sense. I wrestle with my mental blocks on a daily basis with a little down time for the relaxation/spiritual exercise.
