Nova has waded into waters that few have braved. I just watched the Nova documentary Judgement Day--Intelligent Design on Trial (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/id/) and I can say that I haven't seen better television this year. Nova tracks the story leading up to the Dover trial and then reenacts the proceedings (no cameras were allowed in the court room) directly from transcripts. It's compelling television and for me highlights how low some will go if they believe God is on their side.
Those good folks over at the Discovery Institute have been nearly pooping themselves in an effort to refute the documentary. Here (http://www.discovery.org/a/4300) is one of many articles claiming that Nova was biased in favor of evolution. Check your local listings and catch this if you haven't already.

This morning, children, we are going to discuss Intelligent Design.
Can you say, "Shit for brains?"

No kidding, Grumpy, how come you always beat around the bush? Once again you clarify the situation. Trying to dissuade an intelligent design advocate is an exercise in vanity. I've discussed evolution with a couple of 'em and they don't have the brains of a piss ant.
I still am interested how they manage to keep breathing. Might be I've too much time on my hands. Perhaps I'll do something for the natives. Something like Grumpy does.
The thumpers have turned their ignorance into honor. Can't understand or even give long periods of time credit for changes so they call time supernatural or shorten it to please themselves.
I, too, have Nova's coverage taped. It was 2 hours long and the wife was watchin' somethin else. At least the judge was not fooled. He be a hero.

I agree it was some very good television and about as even handed as I have seen. I posted a question on one of the Christian websites asking how many had seen it and their opinion of it. Got very few responses (7 or 8 as I recall) and those were divided. Most thought it was biased against the Intelligent Design supporters but there were a few who felt it was a fair treatment of the subject.
I think I will buy a copy of it for my Sunday School class. They will probably find it interesting.

That's a good idea--let us know what they think.

Yes, the comments from that class should be interesting. I wonder that Dr. Michael Behe didn't choke when he had to support astrology as being science in the same respect as intelligent design.

Be glad to. Understand, it may be a few months. I am finishing up a 4 viewpoint study of Revelation with the High Schoolers (historic, preterist, futurist, and spiritualist) then will trade with the Adult Sunday School teacher who wants to teach the High Schoolers and I will be once again with the Adult Sunday School class.
Don't know what they are studying but will mention this as a possible topic. However, the final decision will be up to the group. I am not very good at dictating what a group needs to know, :)
As always,

S2R,
Thanks to your wonderful link and the excellent Nova website, I just watched the entire show on my computer. Somehow I had missed this when it was shown. Darn!
It tickles me that the judge was able to see that science is not just someone's ultimate desire to crush religion but able to stand on it's own with mountains of evidence supporting Darwin's theory.
So many people simply cannot think in terms of the number of years necessary to modify one species or genus of animal into another. It makes me think of the movie Rainman and the character's inability to understand the value of money. Same brain malfunction, I'm sure. But least I judge too fast, I can't honestly say I fully comprehend so large a number as 'billions' either...
As to Nova's attempts to pacify the religious, when the study dubbed "God Module" was released, I think it was about in 1997 or so, it got lots of media play and everyone was quick to point to the disclaimer at the end of the report that in no way did the report have any intention to downgrade religion. Even today, the information is pretty much quashed. I do hope that one day such information will be able to be released without pandering to the religious.
Even if, in some distant future, religions of all types could be seen as nothing more that the usual superstitions and myths we chuckle at now, there will be those determined to bring back the "nostalgia" of "the old days".
