View Full Version : A letter to my father-in-law

Letter I wrote to my father-in-law My wife's parents are here visiting from Germany (where they are fundamentalist missionaries). We've been arguing. Can you image? So, I wrote a rebuttal to him in two letters: one on evolution and one about why the Bible cannot be a divine book.
I argue that the morality of the Bible is so primitive (genocide, bad treatment of women, killing people for nothing, etc) that it could not be from a supreme holy God. I talk about several incidents of sexual debauchery. I also argue that the church does have a place in society, but they are blowing it by attacking science.
If you're interested, you're welcome to read the letters.

Nice to hear from you again. I'm having trouble linking to the article on speciation.

Oops, I see now that it was a download rather than a link to a site.

I don't have or want anything that opens MS Word documents, but I'm sure they are awesome. And that they will have no positive effect on him.

When my homework slows down, I'll polish these up and turn it into a web page so they are more easily read. Homework is taking every minute right now.

Read the letters. Both appear to be very sincere and well thought out.
At the risk of sounding rude, are your in-laws rather "black and white" in their understanding of the Bible?
As always,

My father-in-law will admit what I'm saying is true, but no matter what he admits in a discussion, I never see it change his views. It's like, this is what he's believed for years and he's too old to change now.

So I get around to reading your letters, click on the link, FedEx filters says they have nudity and pornographic content and won't let me in. Now I'm REALLY intrigued!

If you go to www.openoffice.org, they've got free open-source software that mimics Bill Gate's monstrous children, including word, excel, access and powerpoint. They'll work with documents from all of those programs. Did I mention that it's free?

I know about OO. As I mentioned I do not want any programs that open Word documents. I would not use it for anything other than opening this guy's file. No offense to the OP, but it's just not that important. Downloading and installing a huge (and IMO, not that great) program for the purpose is overkill, especially when the chances are that there is little to nothing in the file that couldn't be presented equally as successfully in a non-propritary format such as plain text or rich text document.
